Shangri-la 21
Located within Toronto's Shangri-La Residences, this unit shares a design language with its companion project, Shangri-la 37, while charting its own quieter, more compact composition. The project is a renovation of an existing suite, reimagined as a study in continuity, warmth, and the disciplined use of a limited material palette.
White oak panelling defines the primary interior surfaces, extending floor-to-ceiling across the living room wall and folding seamlessly into a built-in office. A floating desk and integrated shelving are tucked alongside the seating area, offering function without disrupting the room's calm geometry. A floating entertainment unit anchors the opposite wall, keeping surfaces clear and reinforcing the project's emphasis on minimalism and proportion.
In the primary bedroom, a custom built-in bed with integrated floating nightstands continues the millwork narrative. Storage is generous but quiet — concealed within the timber composition to maintain the room's sense of lightness and ease. The adjacent walk-in closet expands the language further, with floating cabinetry and open shelves that read as architectural rather than utilitarian.
The primary bathroom completes the suite with full-height marble slabs, closing the project on a note of considered material restraint. Like its companion unit, Shangri-la 21 is conceived not as a series of rooms but as a single, continuous composition — calm, warm, and quietly assured.
